Sister Mabel's Story

Q) How old are you and when did you become a widow?

A)My name is Mabel. I am a dedicated prayer warrior and an active member of the Village ministry group at Sharon Evangelical Church. I am a kindergarten teacher in Bangalore. I am 52 years old and became a widow two years ago, at the age of 50, when my husband passed away from a heart attack.

How did you meet Jesus?

Before receiving the True Gospel, I was a CSI Christian, following false teachings. One day, Pastor Aaron Arasan (the father of Pastor Richard) met me and shared the Gospel with me. Since then, I have been following Jesus with all my heart.

How is your life different after becoming a widow compared to the past?

My husband was a Christian, but he struggled with worldly habits and drank heavily, which contributed to his death. Despite this, he was a good person at heart and always took care of me. Together, we made a living from our earnings. We didn’t have any children, and I have never questioned God about that. Since my husband passed away, my life has changed significantly, and I have been struggling. Sometimes I feel very lonely, and it’s hard to manage everything by myself. I often seek help from the church and borrow money from friends and relatives.

How do you live your life? How can you afford your need?

After my husband died, I had to move to a very small house because I could no longer afford the rent. I looked for jobs that would allow me to stay on-site, like servant positions, but I couldn’t find any. As a result, I have fallen into significant debt due to rent issues. I also stayed with a friend for two months but had to leave because her husband was uncomfortable with it. I can only manage my daily needs with my salary as a teacher.

What is the most difficult thing in your life?

The most challenging aspect of my life is the loneliness; it feels like nobody helps a poor widow. Sometimes, when I ask for assistance, people respond with inappropriate suggestions, leaving me in tears. I pray after such incidents.

What is your hope?

My hope is in Jesus Christ and my Heavenly Father. Even though I am alone and feel abandoned, my Lord answers me whenever I call upon Him. He has miraculously provided for me countless times and helped me in many ways. God is good, and that is all I need in my life.
